Congress MP KC Venugopal Demands Amit Shah’s Resignation Over Ambedkar Remark

On Friday, Congress MP KC Venugopal called for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his controversial remark about Dr. BR Ambedkar.

Speaking to ANI, Venugopal stated, “Our agitation is very clear. Amit Shah should resign, he should tender an apology to the nation. When we are asking this if you want to put our leaders and us in jail, you are most welcome. Yesterday Varsha Gaikwad also gave a complaint but there is no FIR. The FIR is only for BJP’s complaint?”

The controversy stems from a statement by Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha, where he remarked, “If they had taken the name of God so many times instead of Ambedkar, they would have got heaven for seven lives.”

This comment has sparked widespread backlash.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with MPs of the INDIA Alliance, joined protests against Shah’s remarks, demanding both an apology and his resignation.

Priyanka accused the BJP of using legal tactics to target opposition leaders.

“The entire country is watching, they have slapped several cases on Rahul Gandhi. They bring in new FIRs and lie…This shows their desperation level,” she stated.

Earlier on Thursday, MPs from the INDIA Bloc, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, held a protest at the Parliament complex.

Many MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sanjay Raut, Mahua Majhi, and Ram Gopal Yadav, wore blue clothes in solidarity with Ambedkar and as a sign of protest.

Amit Shah’s Comments On Ambedkar ‘Insulted’ His Dignity: Mayawati

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on Ambedkar and called for their withdrawal.

“The words used by Amit Shah in the Parliament about the architect of the Indian Constitution and messiah of Dalits and other neglected classes, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, have greatly hurt Baba Saheb’s dignity and existence, and in a way, he has been insulted. Now there is tremendous anger and resentment among his followers in the entire country and he should take back these words and he should also repent for this. Otherwise, his (BR Ambedkar) followers will never be able to forget this, just like the way they haven’t been able to forget the misdeeds of Congress towards Dr. BR Ambedkar,” Mayawati asserted in a press conference in Lucknow.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) also joined the outcry, with MP Dimple Yadav demanding an apology from the BJP.

“The BJP should apologize for the comments made in Parliament. This proves that the BJP is against the principles of Dr. BR Ambedkar,” she said.
