India’s Unemployment Rate Lowest In G20, Says Mandaviya

Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday said that India’s unemployment rate stands at 2 per cent, the lowest among G20 nations.

He cited the World Economic Forum’s ‘The Future of Jobs Report 2025’ to highlight the achievement.

Mandaviya stressed that employment generation has kept pace with India’s rapid economic growth. He credited enabling government schemes for driving job creation across sectors.

The minister made these remarks at an event where the Ministry of Labour and Employment signed an MoU with ‘Mentor Together’ and ‘Quikr’ to boost youth employability and job opportunities on the National Career Service (NCS) portal.

Government Partnerships Driving Job Creation

In his address, Mandaviya said the National Career Service (NCS) portal has nearly 52 lakh registered employers, 5.79 crore job seekers, and over 7.22 crore mobilised vacancies.

He noted that the platform now offers a one-stop solution for employment-related services, with 44 lakh active vacancies.

Over the past year, the ministry has signed MoUs with ten organisations, including Amazon and Swiggy. These collaborations have mobilised nearly five lakh vacancies.

Mandaviya also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of a ₹2 lakh crore package of five flagship schemes to support employment, skilling, and opportunities for 4.1 crore youth.

A major part of this package is the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY). With an allocation of ₹99,446 crore, it aims to incentivise the creation of 3.5 crore jobs in two years, of which 1.92 crore will go to first-time entrants.

MoUs to Expand Access and Mentorship

Welcoming the new partnerships, Mandaviya said they would make structured mentoring and job opportunities more accessible. He noted that these collaborations align with the PM-VBRY scheme, which will come into effect in August this year.

The partnership with Mentor Together is expected to reach two lakh youth in its first year. This includes one lakh from the NCS and one lakh PM-VBRY entrants.

The programme will deliver personalised career mentoring through city- and district-level outreach. It will also connect first-time job seekers, especially from underserved backgrounds, with over 24,000 trained professionals.

The MoU renewal with Quikr will further strengthen the employment ecosystem. It will integrate over 1,200 daily job listings from Quikr Jobs across more than 1,200 cities into the NCS portal.

Mandaviya said this collaboration will give millions of seekers, especially from rural and underserved regions, real-time access to employment opportunities.
