India’s Postal System Becomes World’s Largest Doorstep Banking Network: PM Modi

PM Narendra Modi on Thursday announced that India’s postal system has transformed into the world’s largest doorstep banking network. He emphasised that the humble postman now plays a pivotal role in driving financial inclusion across the country.

With unprecedented efforts from the government, our humble postman has become the harbinger of financial inclusion. With @IndiaPostOffice and @IPPBOnline, India’s postal system is now the world’s largest doorstep banking network, ensuring dignity and empowerment,” the Prime Minister’s Office posted on X.

PM Modi Praises Scindia’s Article on Postal Reforms

The Prime Minister responded to an article written by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia. He commended it for presenting a ‘broader vision’ of the postal system’s evolution.

Scindia wrote that under PM Modi’s clarion call of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’, India Post and the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) have redefined one of the world’s oldest postal networks. They have transformed it into the globe’s largest doorstep banking system.

Union Minister Scindia noted that IPPB is delivering access, assurance, and aspiration directly to the doorsteps of 140 crore Indians. The Department of Posts, with its vast network of 1.6 lakh post offices, is driving this transformation.

“Yesterday’s postman now brings the promise of financial access and dignity to every doorstep in the country,” he stated.

IPPB has digitalised all its rural accounts, integrated technology, expanded partnerships, and diversified services, turning post offices into comprehensive financial hubs. This shift has demonstrated that even traditional institutions can adapt to a rapidly changing world.

Established eight years ago, IPPB was designed to ensure no Indian is excluded from the formal economy, regardless of geography, gender, or circumstance. Beyond opening accounts, it has unlocked new opportunities and empowerment.

By integrating rural India into the digital economy, IPPB has become a key driver of national economic empowerment, Scindia added.
