India’s First Hydrogen-Powered Train Marks A Big Step Towards Self-Reliance, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered train as a landmark achievement for the country, saying it marks a significant step towards self-reliance and sustainable development.

Ahead of the historic flag-off from Haryana’s Jind, the Prime Minister said the project reflects India’s growing commitment to clean energy, technological innovation and environmentally friendly transport.

Sharing his message on X, PM Modi said the long-awaited dream of India receiving its first hydrogen-powered train was about to become a reality. He congratulated everyone associated with the project, calling it a proud moment in the country’s journey towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat and a greener future.

The Prime Minister also shared a Sanskrit verse highlighting the importance of dedication and determination in achieving ambitious goals. He said people should pursue every task, whether large or small, with complete commitment and renewed enthusiasm, describing this as a quality to learn from a lion.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi will flag off the hydrogen-powered train from Haryana’s Jind. The train will run on the Jind-Sonipat pilot route, showcasing Indian Railways’ commitment to clean energy and sustainable mobility.

Powered by hydrogen fuel cells that emit only water vapour, the train offers a clean alternative to diesel engines.

With its launch, India joins Germany, Japan, China and the United States in exploring hydrogen-powered rail transport, marking a major step towards greener and more sustainable railways.
