Indian Railways Plans To Manufacture 10,000 Non-AC Coaches Over Next Two Years

The Ministry of Railways has unveiled ambitious plans to bolster its rolling stock by manufacturing an additional 10,000 non-AC coaches over the fiscal years 2024-25 and 2025-26.

This initiative aims to meet growing passenger demand and enhance comfort across its extensive network.

A senior official from the Ministry disclosed that the immediate targets include rolling out 4,485 non-AC coaches in the current financial year (2024-25), followed by an additional 5,444 coaches in the subsequent fiscal year (2025-26).

This increase marks a significant ramp-up from previous production levels and underscores the Ministry’s commitment to improving passenger amenities.

In addition to the non-AC coaches, the Indian Railways also plans to introduce over 5,300 general coaches to bolster its overall capacity.

For the ongoing fiscal year, the production schedule includes 2,605 general coaches, which feature specialized Amrit Bharat enhancements designed to elevate passenger comfort and convenience.

Further diversifying its offerings, the Railways will manufacture 1,470 non-AC sleeper coaches and 323 SLR (Sitting-cum-Luggage Rake) coaches, alongside 32 high-capacity parcel vans and 55 pantry cars.

These additions aim to effectively cater to varied passenger needs and logistical demands.

Looking ahead to fiscal year 2025-26, the Ministry however aims to continue its expansion with 2,710 general coaches, maintaining the incorporation of advanced Amrit Bharat features.

The production targets also include 1,910 non-AC sleeper coaches and 514 SLR coaches, reinforcing the Railways’ commitment to enhancing both capacity and passenger experience.

This strategic initiative by the Ministry of Railways underscores its proactive approach to meeting increasing travel demands and ensuring a comfortable journey for millions of passengers traversing the Indian Railways network.
