Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC), Delhi University, organised a two-day national seminar on ‘Indian Languages in the Digital World: Constructing New Discourses’, bringing together language experts, academics and media scholars from universities, colleges and research institutions across India.
The seminar examined the changing role of Indian languages in the digital era, along with emerging opportunities and challenges linked to artificial intelligence (AI), translation, localisation, digital communication and multilingual technologies.
The inaugural session focused on ‘Digital Humanities and Indian Languages’.
DCAC Acting Principal Acharya Shrikant Pandey delivered the welcome address, while Madhya Pradesh State Information Commission Information Commissioner Dr Umashankar Pachauri attended as the chief guest. He highlighted the continued relevance of Indian languages and the importance of preserving the distinctive pronunciation of words.
Director of the South Campus Acharya Rajni Abbi, Governing Body Chairman Acharya Gajendra Singh and Delhi University Assistant Professor Dr VM Subramanya Sharma shared their views during the opening session.
The technical and interactive sessions explored AI, translation, localisation and multilingual technologies.
JNU Professor Girish Nath Jha, Shri Atul Kothari, Rajdhani College Principal Acharya Darshan Pandey and JIIMC’s Dr Rachna Sharma delivered keynote and chairperson addresses.
Speakers stressed making Indian languages key mediums for digital knowledge creation.
Discussions covered social media, digital communication and publishing, with experts highlighting their growing digital presence and opportunities.
Dr Abhijit Singh further presented the seminar report and key conclusions, followed by certificate distribution to participants.
Dr Ghanshyam Kalawat delivered the vote of thanks, bringing the two-day academic gathering to a close.
