Indian Diplomat Encounters Obstruction At UK Gurdwara Amid Khalistani Extremist Presence

In a recent incident, the Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, encountered obstruction while attempting to enter a gurdwara in Scotland. This incident has unfolded amidst a growing controversy sparked by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s accusations against India regarding the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

According to a viral video circulating on social media, a pro-Khalistan activist can be seen preventing Mr. Doraiswami from entering the Glasgow Gurdwara on Albert Drive. In the video, two individuals are seen near the High Commissioner’s car in the parking area. One of them attempts to open the car door, which has been locked from the inside. Subsequently, the high commissioner’s car departs from the gurdwara premises.

It is important to note that the Indian High Commissioner had been invited by the gurdwara managing committee. In a longer version of the video, the Khalistani extremists can be observed making threats towards the gurudwara managing committee staff as well.

As of now, there has been no immediate response from the Indian government. However, given the nature of the incident and its implications for the high commissioner’s security, sources suggest that a police complaint has been filed.

The underlying tension between India and Canada stems from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations that “Indian government agents” were involved in the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India swiftly rejected Trudeau’s charges as “absurd” and unfounded.

It is worth noting that Trudeau has not provided any concrete evidence to support his allegations against India. However, reports suggest that this information was shared within an intelligence alliance that includes the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. In response, India has accused Canada of providing a safe haven to terrorists.

Tensions between the two countries had been brewing since Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised concerns with Trudeau regarding rising secessionist activities in Canada during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Delhi. In 2018, India reportedly presented Trudeau with a list of nine Khalistani operatives, further exacerbating the strain in diplomatic relations.
