On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a strong message to the nation’s ‘enemies’, asserting that India will ‘identify, trace, and punish’ every terrorist and their backers, pursuing them relentlessly across the globe.
The Prime Minister began his address by observing a two-minute silence for the victims and paid heartfelt tributes to those killed in the 22 April attack, which claimed 28 lives, many of whom were tourists.
“The entire nation stands united in mourning the loss of innocent lives in this heinous act of terror,” PM Modi stated, addressing a massive gathering in Bihar’s Madhubani during National Panchayati Raj Day.
Calling on the crowd to join him in a moment of silence, PM Modi asserted, “Before I begin my speech, I would like to request all of you to observe a moment of silence to pay tribute to the families we lost in terror attacks on 22 April.”
Condemning the killings in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, the Prime Minister said the massacre had shaken the entire country.
“The brutal killing of innocent citizens by terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 has deeply saddened the entire nation. Millions of Indians are grieving. The whole country stands with the bereaved families in their time of sorrow,” PM Modi noted.
The Prime Minister further reflected on the diverse backgrounds of those affected by the tragedy.
“In this terrorist attack, some lost their son, some lost their brothers, some lost their life partners. Some of the victims spoke Bangla, some spoke Kannada, some Marathi, Odia, Gujarati and Bihari. From Kargil to Kanyakumari, we are all grieving for them,” PM Modi further remarked.
The Prime Minister then issued a stern warning to the perpetrators and their backers.
“This attack was not only on the unarmed tourists, but the enemies of the nation have dared to attack the soul of India. I would like to make it clear that those who have carried out this terrorist attack and those who have planned it will get a bigger punishment than they can imagine. We will punish them,” PM Modi said.
Emphasising India’s resolve, Prime Minister Modi said, “Today, from the soil of Bihar, I tell the entire world – India will identify, trace and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth. Terrorism will never break India’s spirit. Terrorism will not go unpunished. Every effort will be made to ensure justice is done. The entire nation is firm in this resolve. Everyone who believes in humanity is with us.”
The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to global allies who have stood with India during this time, noting, “I thank the various countries and the nations who have stood with us in these times.”
The speech follows a deadly attack attributed to the Resistance Front, a Pakistan-based militant group linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. The incident has prompted a series of significant retaliatory measures by India.
