India will host the first BRICS MSME Forum and the third SME Working Group Meeting on June 19 in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, under the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability’, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises said on Thursday.
The day-long event will convene policymakers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs and stakeholders from BRICS member and partner countries, including Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the UAE, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and India.
According to the Ministry, India’s MSME sector comprises more than 8.6 crore enterprises and plays a vital role in the country’s economy.
The sector contributes over 31.1 per cent to GDP, accounts for 35.4 per cent of manufacturing output and contributes more than 48.58 per cent of India’s exports while generating employment for millions.
“From traditional artisans and rural enterprises to advanced manufacturing units and technology-driven businesses, India’s MSME sector represents the true diversity and strength of the country’s economy,” the statement said.
The programme will begin with the inauguration of an exhibition showcasing MSME excellence, followed by the third SME Working Group Meeting on the theme ‘Building MSME Ecosystem – Sustainable Roots to Global Routes’.
Industry associations from BRICS nations will also deliberate on ‘Access to Finance for MSME’, ‘Technology access for MSME’, and ‘Growth of sustainability-oriented MSME’.
Senior government officials and delegates will share best practices, policy experiences and successful case studies aimed at creating resilient and future-ready MSME ecosystems.
The forum is expected to deepen cooperation among BRICS nations, facilitate knowledge exchange and promote partnerships that support inclusive and sustainable economic development.
