India is strengthening its defences along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh with advanced drone technology, specialised combat training and underground bunkers amid continued face-offs with Chinese troops, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujeet Kapoor has confirmed.
Speaking to personnel in Alwar, Rajasthan, Kapoor said Indian and Chinese soldiers had remained in face-off situations in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, including Asaphila, since July. He said Chinese troops had pitched tents around 6–7 km from the boundary claimed by India in the area.
The ITBP is upgrading its operational capabilities through a modernisation plan worth ₹4,000 crore approved by the Union Home Ministry.
The initiative aims to improve surveillance, strengthen border protection and prepare personnel for changing battlefield conditions.
India is bolstering Arunachal border defences with drones, combat training and underground shelters amid face-offs with Chinese troops.
The ITBP is also developing drones and has established dedicated drone platoons in its border security battalions to strengthen surveillance and operational readiness.

The force is also developing underground shelters to protect personnel deployed in remote, high-altitude areas where temperatures frequently fall below freezing.
Cold-start kits will help vehicles start in sub-zero conditions, while all-terrain vehicles will improve mobility across difficult landscapes.
The ITBP has also issued guidelines to protect personnel from stress and potential social media honey-trap attempts, highlighting the importance of psychological preparedness alongside physical training.
Despite several rounds of diplomatic talks between India and China since 2020, tensions along parts of the border remain a concern. The developments underline India’s efforts to strengthen frontline preparedness through technology, infrastructure and specialised training.
The ITBP will mark its 65th Raising Day on October 24, highlighting the force’s role in securing India’s mountainous northern borders.
