India Steps Up Push To Host 2036 Olympic Games, Says PM Modi

Emphasising India’s rising profile in global sports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke about the country’s growing ambitions. He said the nation is making strong and sustained efforts to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 72nd National Volleyball Championship via video conferencing, he outlined the context of his remarks. He highlighted the country’s preparedness and long-term vision for international sporting excellence.

Reflecting on recent achievements, the Prime Minister reviewed India’s progress in hosting global events. He noted that the country has successfully hosted more than 20 major international sporting events over the past decade.

“In the past decade, more than 20 major international events have been held in various cities, including the U-17 FIFA World Cup, the Hockey World Cup, and major chess tournaments,” PM Modi said.

Looking ahead, PM Modi referred to the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which India is set to host, and said the country is preparing with full determination.

“The 2030 Commonwealth Games will be held in India. India is preparing with full strength to host the 2036 Olympics,” PM Modi added.

Volleyball as a Symbol of Team Spirit

Turning to the sport of volleyball, the Prime Minister described it as a game that represents balance, cooperation and perseverance. He explained that the sport teaches players to work together, guided by the principle of ‘Team First’, where individual skills combine to achieve collective victory.

Meanwhile, the 72nd National Volleyball Championship is being held from January 4 to January 11. It has brought together athletes from across the country.

Over 1,000 players are competing in the tournament. They are part of 58 teams representing different states and institutions, making it one of the largest national volleyball events.

Overall, the championship reinforces India’s efforts to strengthen its sporting culture and infrastructure.

Through such initiatives, PM Modi said, the country aims to nurture talent, promote sportsmanship and build a solid foundation for achieving global sporting milestones, including hosting the Olympic Games.
