India Slams Pakistan Over Remarks On Judicial Matter; Rejects Interference

India on Wednesday strongly criticised Pakistan for commenting on its internal affairs, asserting that Islamabad holds no locus standi to interfere in India’s judicial processes. The response followed a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office supporting a banned organisation and its members.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal firmly rejected the remarks, stating that Pakistan’s endorsement of violence did not come as a surprise given its longstanding association with terrorism. He urged Pakistan to reflect on its own human rights record instead of making unfounded claims.

The controversy emerged after a Delhi court sentenced separatist leader Asiya Andrabi to life imprisonment. Her associates, Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen, received 30-year prison terms.

The court held that their actions threatened the sovereignty and integrity of India.

Presiding judge Chander Jit Singh observed that the convicts promoted secessionist ideology and indirectly encouraged violence by glorifying militants.

The ruling emphasised that such acts could influence vulnerable sections, particularly youth, to adopt unlawful means.

The case stemmed from a 2018 probe by the National Investigation Agency into the banned outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat.

Authorities presented digital evidence, speeches, and posts indicating attempts to incite unrest and advocate for Kashmir’s merger with Pakistan.

The court convicted the accused under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and relevant sections of the IPC.

It ruled that offences aimed at destabilising the nation warranted strict punishment, rejecting any plea for leniency.
