India Set To Reach One Billion Voter Milestone: CEC Rajiv Kumar

On Tuesday, Rajiv Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC) announced that India is on the verge of becoming the first country to have one billion registered voters. This milestone would cement India’s status as the largest voter base in the world.

Addressing a press conference at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Rajiv Kumar stated, “We conducted elections in eight states and Union Territories, as well as the general elections, setting multiple records. These include maximum voter turnout, violence-free elections, record seizures, and enhanced participation by the public, especially women.”

Expressing hope for the future of democracy, he further asserted, “I hope democracy continues to strengthen in this manner.”

Sharing details from the latest voter data, the Chief Election Commissioner of India revealed, “Our electoral rolls released yesterday, and in four more states today, show that we are crossing 99 crore registered voters. Soon, we will be a nation of one billion voters, the maximum in the world.”

Highlighting the growing participation of women, CEC Kumar noted, “The number of women registered as voters will also surpass 48 crore in this SSR (Special Summary Revision). This is a very strong indicator of women’s empowerment.”

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, addressed a press conference to unveil the schedule.

Delhi will vote on 5 February, with results to be announced on 8 February.

Key dates include:
