IIT Madras Director Dr V Kamakoti on Tuesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 11-year tenure, calling it a ‘golden period’ for science, technology, and education in India.
He credited PM Modi’s leadership for major strides in national missions, innovation, and human capacity development.
Speaking to IANS, Kamakoti highlighted landmark achievements from the Swachh Bharat mission to the development of Covid-19 vaccines.
He further noted that India not only produced two Aatmanirbhar vaccines but also shared them with several countries in need.
Kamakoti stated, “That happened under the very able guidance and leadership of PM Modi.”
Kamakoti applauded the Union Budget’s focus on Sustainable Cities, health, agriculture, and Centres of Excellence for education. He stressed that the government significantly pushed critical and emerging technologies like AI to build human capital and promote national growth.
Kamakoti highlighted three key national missions as crucial for developing India’s expertise:
These initiatives, he added, fostered not just research but also entrepreneurship and innovation skills in Indian youth.
The Director noted a major boost to startups over the past 11 years, with many progressing through advanced funding stages and moving towards unicorn status. He also remarked on the smoother patenting process, which was once a significant hurdle.
Kamakoti further praised the rise in research output and support for higher education. He mentioned the Prime Minister Research Fellowship, which offers strong support for PhD students in advanced research.
Kamakoti added that the upcoming National Research Fund would reshape India’s research landscape.
“Our honourable Prime Minister has set the real foundation for 2047, and we are ever grateful to him,” Kamakoti concluded.
