India Rejects Pakistan’s Remarks On Minorities; Cites Its Own Rights Record

India on Monday issued a sharp and unambiguous rebuttal to Pakistan after Islamabad attempted to comment on violence against minorities in India.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) firmly rejected Pakistan’s remarks, calling out its long and deeply stained record of repression, persecution and systemic abuse of religious minorities.

In a strongly worded statement, the MEA dismissed the comments made by the spokesperson of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry stated that Pakistan’s abysmal and well-documented treatment of minorities leaves it with no credibility to lecture any other country on human rights or religious freedom.

The MEA underlined that Pakistan’s victimisation of minorities across faiths remains a globally recognised reality.

MEA asserted that no amount of finger-pointing can obscure Pakistan’s own failures.

Officials stressed that Islamabad continues to grapple with entrenched discrimination, forced conversions and misuse of blasphemy laws, issues that remain central to international human rights concerns.

India also recalled a similar response issued last month when Pakistan commented on the flag hoisting at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.

At that time, India conveyed its position clearly. It stated that Pakistan lacks the moral standing to comment on religious matters elsewhere because of its record of bigotry, repression and institutionalised mistreatment of minorities within its borders.

Addressing the weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India’s position in unequivocal terms. He stated that India had taken note of Pakistan’s remarks and rejected them with the contempt they deserved.

Call for Pakistan to Look Inward

Randhir Jaiswal added that Pakistan, burdened with a deeply stained record of systemic discrimination against minorities, should refrain from issuing hypocritical homilies and instead focus inward on its own human rights crisis.

Jaiswal emphasised that Pakistan’s continued attempts to deflect attention through selective outrage only expose its discomfort with global scrutiny. He urged Islamabad to address its domestic realities rather than manufacture narratives targeting India.

Recent independent reports further reinforced India’s position.

Earlier this month, a study by the New Delhi-based International Centre for Peace Studies highlighted the persistent persecution of minorities in Pakistan.

The report pointed to the deliberate portrayal of Hindus as the ‘other’ and the political manipulation of religion and anti-India sentiment to consolidate power, revealing deep contradictions in Pakistan’s national identity.

The report, citing data from the Lahore-based Centre for Social Justice, documented 344 blasphemy cases in Pakistan in 2024 alone.

It revealed that between 2021 and 2024, perpetrators subjected at least 421 minority women and girls, predominantly Hindus and Christians, to forced conversions.

Alarmingly, minors accounted for 71 per cent of the victims.

India’s response signals a clear diplomatic stance: attempts by Pakistan to posture on minority rights will meet firm resistance, backed by facts and international documentation.

New Delhi has made it evident that credibility, not rhetoric, defines authority in human rights discourse.
