India, Qatar Stress Diplomacy, Energy Security As West Asia Tensions Rise

India and Qatar have emphasised the importance of diplomatic engagement as tensions intensify across West Asia.

In a recent telephone discussion, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani assessed the current security developments and stressed resolving issues through peaceful means.

The two leaders voiced deep concern regarding the ‘unjustified Iranian attacks’ targeting several Gulf countries. They cautioned against strikes on key infrastructure, especially those connected to water, food, and energy resources, underlining the serious consequences for both civilians and economic stability.

They also reviewed the wider effects of the conflict on regional balance and global security conditions.

Ensuring an uninterrupted energy supply remained a central theme of the discussion.

Both sides underlined the necessity of preserving free movement through vital maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which is critical for international oil shipments.

India and Qatar agreed on enhancing joint diplomatic efforts and encouraging all parties to return to negotiations. They reiterated the importance of cooperation and strategic dialogue to ease tensions and restore stability in the region.

“During the call, they reviewed the developments of the military escalation in the region and its serious repercussions on regional and international security and stability, as well as ways to resolve all disputes peacefully. They also emphasised the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation,” Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The conversation took place against the backdrop of increasing military activity and heightened rhetoric in West Asia. This has sparked concerns about a potential wider conflict.

With global energy systems at stake, both nations stressed the urgency of diplomatic solutions. Their exchange reflects a shared priority to maintain peace, stability, and secure energy supplies in a rapidly evolving geopolitical environment.
