India Presents $100 Billion Energy Investment Opportunity; PM Modi Tells Global CEOs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India offers a $100 billion investment opportunity in the energy sector and will play a decisive role in shaping global energy markets.

PM Modi made these remarks while interacting with the chief executives of leading global energy companies during India Energy Week (IEW) 2026.

He said India is moving swiftly towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, driven by strong macroeconomic fundamentals and sustained reforms.

PM Modi underlined that India’s rising economic strength will significantly influence global energy demand and supply dynamics.

He highlighted the investment potential of nearly $100 billion in oil and gas exploration and production.

PM Modi credited investor-friendly policy reforms for creating a transparent, stable, and competitive environment.

He also pointed to a $30 billion opportunity in the Compressed Bio-Gas sector, calling it a key pillar of India’s clean energy transition.

Global Energy Engagement Drive

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Minister of State Suresh Gopi attended the interaction.

PM Modi said direct engagement with global industry leaders helps the government fine-tune policies and resolve sector-specific challenges efficiently.

He added that such dialogue strengthens India’s standing as a preferred and reliable investment destination.

Global energy CEOs expressed strong confidence in India’s long-term growth prospects.

They said policy stability, reform momentum, and predictable demand make India an attractive market.

Several CEOs conveyed plans to expand and deepen their operations in India.

The roundtable saw participation from 27 CEOs and senior executives.

Companies represented included TotalEnergies, BP, Vitol, HD Hyundai, HD KSOE, Aker, LanzaTech, Trafigura, Wood Mackenzie, Praj, ReNew, MOL, Staatsolie, and the International Energy Forum, among others.

PM Modi outlined large-scale opportunities across the energy value chain. He highlighted prospects in gas-based industries, refinery and petrochemical integration, and maritime and shipbuilding sectors.

PM Modi said global energy uncertainty also creates space for innovation and new partnerships. He urged companies to collaborate closely with India on technology, investment, and sustainability.

PM Modi reiterated that India stands ready as a trusted global energy partner. He said India will remain central to balancing global energy demand and supply in the years ahead.
