The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday said India remains the only G20 country where petrol prices have stayed unchanged despite the global energy crisis.
In a post on X, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said petrol prices remain at ₹94.77 per litre in India even as several major economies saw sharp increases. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the government’s handling of global energy market volatility for maintaining price stability.
According to the data cited, petrol prices rose by about 22 per cent in the United States, 11 per cent in China, 15 per cent in Germany and around 8 per cent in Japan.
Bhandari said India had shielded consumers from the worst effects of the global energy crisis. He also criticised the Congress leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, for not acknowledging the government’s efforts.
Global oil markets have been under pressure due to escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, affecting shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
The crisis also impacted oil production and exports from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Kuwait.
Amid the tensions, Iran allowed Indian-flagged vessels to pass through the Strait following diplomatic engagements between India and Iran.
In a post on X, PM Modi expressed concern over the humanitarian consequences of the conflict and emphasised the importance of ensuring the safety of Indian nationals in the region.
He also underlined the need to maintain uninterrupted movement of goods and energy supplies through global trade routes, noting that prolonged disruptions could have significant economic implications.
