India Launches Net Zero Portal To Track Voluntary Climate Commitments

India has launched a new digital platform to improve transparency around voluntary climate action and track progress towards net zero targets.

Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh launched the Net Zero Portal and the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) Dashboard in Mumbai on World Ozone Day 2026.

The Net Zero Portal will allow companies, organisations and other eligible entities to voluntarily register their net zero commitments.

Participating entities can disclose their greenhouse gas emissions, set net zero targets and provide annual updates on their progress. The government is encouraging entities to report Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, while Scope 3 reporting remains voluntary.

Scope 1 covers direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by an organisation, while Scope 2 relates to emissions linked to purchased electricity, heat or energy. Scope 3 covers other indirect emissions across the wider value chain.

Entities can also outline the steps they plan to take to reach their net zero goals. These may include switching to cleaner energy, improving energy efficiency, adopting new technologies and using carbon-removal measures where applicable.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will provide an acknowledgement to entities that successfully declare their net zero targets.

Information submitted by participating organisations will also be publicly accessible, creating a consolidated repository of voluntary net zero actions across the country.

The government has also launched the NAPCC Dashboard to bring climate-related data and progress from national missions onto a common platform.

The dashboard tracks nine national missions across 28 states and eight Union Territories. The platform aims to improve transparency and climate action as India works towards its 2070 net zero target.
