India Celebrates Record Paralympic Success; PM Modi Praises Historic Medal Haul

In a historic achievement at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Indian para-athletes have set a new benchmark by securing 29 medals, the country’s highest-ever medal tally at the event.

This outstanding performance has drawn praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took to X to celebrate the remarkable success.

Prime Minister Modi lauded the unwavering dedication and indomitable spirit of the athletes who have brought glory to the nation.

He described the Paralympic Games as ‘special and historical’ for India, reflecting on the unprecedented medal haul.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Paralympics 2024 have been special and historical. India is overjoyed that our incredible para-athletes have brought home 29 medals, which is the best-ever performance since India’s debut at the Games.”

“This achievement is due to the unwavering dedication and indomitable spirit of our athletes. Their sporting performances have given us many moments to remember and inspired several upcoming athletes,” PM Modi stated.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games concluded on Sunday evening with a grand closing ceremony at Stade de France, attended by around 64,000 spectators and over 8,500 athletes and their support teams.

Over the course of 11 days, India’s athletes however achieved a remarkable tally of seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze medals.

This impressive achievement underscores the progress and growing prowess of Indian para-athletes on the global stage.

India’s Paralympic journey began with a gold medal in swimming by Murlikant Petkar at the 1972 Games.

Prior to Paris 2024, the country had accumulated a total of 31 medals across 12 Paralympic Games, marking a significant leap in performance with this year’s record-breaking haul.
