On Sunday, India repatriated 229 persons from Sudan as part of its mission to evacuate stranded Indians.
A day after 365 individuals evacuated from the African country to Delhi, a new batch of evacuees landed in Bengaluru.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted, “One more flight brings back 229 passengers to Bengaluru”, through his official Twitter handle.
On Friday, 754 people landed in India in two batches as part of the evacuation mission.
According to official data, the total number of Indians who have been brought back home from Sudan today stands at 1,954.
The Indians were taken back from Jeddah, Saudi Arabian, where India had set up a transit camp for the evacuees.
On Wednesday, the first round of 360 evacuees arrived in New Delhi on a commercial plane.
On Thursday, the second round of 246 Indian evacuees arrived in Mumbai in a C17 Globemaster aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
Under Operation Kaveri, India has been transporting its citizens in buses from the conflict zones in Khartoum and other troubled areas to Port Sudan from where they are moved to Jeddah in the IAF’s heavy-lift transport aircraft and the Indian Navy’s ships.
The Indians are being escorted home from Jeddah via commercial flights or IAF aircraft.
India established separate control centres in Jeddah and Port Sudan, and the Indian embassy in Khartoum has been working with them, as well as with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) headquarters in Delhi.
Sudan has been experiencing violent conflict between the country’s army and a paramilitary group, which has reportedly killed 400 people.
On Monday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar launched ‘Operation Kaveri’ to evacuate Indians from the African country.
