Opposition MPs from the INDIA bloc staged a protest outside Parliament on Wednesday, dressed in black to condemn the alleged police brutality during demonstrations over the NEET paper leak.
The protest came a day after police forcibly removed Opposition leaders and workers protesting outside the Prime Minister’s official residence.
Lawmakers from the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and other Opposition parties gathered near the Parliament complex carrying placards and raising slogans against what they described as the government’s indifference towards students affected by the examination controversy.
Senior Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, wore black attire as a mark of protest against the police action on demonstrators and MPs. They accused the government of trying to suppress demands for accountability over the alleged NEET paper leak.
The protest followed Tuesday’s demonstrations, when Rahul Gandhi joined protesters outside the Prime Minister’s residence to demand the Education Minister’s resignation.
Police later removed several Opposition leaders and MPs from the protest site.
Congress condemned the police action, with MP Pramod Tiwari calling it an ‘Undeclared Emergency’ and alleging the government had undermined democratic rights.
MP K Suresh said MPs wore black outside Makar Dwar to protest the alleged mistreatment of Rahul Gandhi and other parliamentarians.
The confrontation has further deepened the standoff between the Opposition and the government over the NEET paper leak issue, which has sparked widespread concern among students and parents across the country.
With both sides remaining firm in their positions, parliamentary proceedings continue to face repeated disruptions as the controversy shows no signs of easing.
