INDIA Bloc Marches Towards Supreme Court; Demands CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation Over SIR

INDIA bloc leaders marched towards the Supreme Court on Monday under heavy security, with Delhi Police erecting barricades along the route.

The Opposition sought legal intervention to protect democratic and constitutional rights, demanding Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged ‘vote theft’ and electoral irregularities.

Congress MP Manish Tewari said the Opposition planned to submit a representation to the Supreme Court.

“We want to submit a representation to the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Let’s see where it goes from here,” Tewari told reporters.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said the campaign began after Rahul Gandhi raised concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) at Indira Gandhi Bhawan.

Dikshit described the exercise as fraudulent and misleading, adding that students, organisations and political parties had joined the campaign.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi alleged that the BJP feared losing power.

“The BJP is scared. They know that power will not remain with them for much longer,” Gogoi said.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh also demanded the CEC’s resignation, saying, “Vote theft; Gyanesh Kumar must resign.”

AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj said protesters would head towards Jantar Mantar and assess whether police allowed them to proceed. He asserted their right to express their views.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said his party had launched its campaign against the SIR exercise in Bihar.

Yadav accused the Election Commission of acting as a ‘complete puppet’ of the BJP and alleged that electoral irregularities were undermining democracy.

“Democracy is under attack, and its opponents are undermining it. How can we remain silent?” Yadav said.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi departed the Constitution Club of India by bus, while other INDIA bloc leaders joined the march towards the Supreme Court.
