India-Belgium Talks: PM Modi Meets Bart De Wever At Hyderabad House

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, as the two countries looked to deepen their bilateral partnership.

The discussions will likely cover the full range of India-Belgium relations, along with regional and international developments of shared interest.

De Wever began his India visit earlier on Thursday by paying floral respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the tribute reflected the common principles of peace, non-violence and human dignity that have contributed to the close ties between the two nations.

The Belgian Prime Minister is in India for a three-day visit, his first since taking office in February last year. Defence Minister Theo Francken is part of the Belgian delegation.

The visit marks the first trip by a Belgian Prime Minister to India in 20 years. It follows the Belgian Economic Mission led by Princess Astrid in March 2025 and is being seen as an important step in strengthening bilateral engagement.

De Wever will likely deliver a keynote address at a Confederation of Indian Industry event linked to the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.

On Friday, the Belgian Prime Minister will travel to Mumbai for meetings with stakeholders from the diamond, ports and logistics sectors.

The MEA said the visit will seek to expand cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, technology, renewable energy, connectivity and people-to-people ties. It will, however, provide an opportunity to strengthen India’s engagement with the EU and Europe.
