IMD Warns Of Rising Temperatures; Doctors Advise ORS To Prevent Heatstroke

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected a further increase in temperatures across multiple districts in the coming days. This forecast follows a period of reduced political activity but rising climatic stress.

Medical professionals have issued advisories highlighting the growing threat of heat-induced illnesses. They recommend constant alertness and regular consumption of Oral Rehydration Solution to maintain fluid balance.

The human body maintains an average internal temperature of nearly 36.9 degrees Celsius.

When external heat surpasses this level, the body absorbs excess warmth. It activates cooling responses such as sweating and rapid breathing. Sustained exposure can, however, overpower these mechanisms.

Excess perspiration results in the loss of fluids, glucose, and vital salts. This condition increases dehydration risk.

If ignored, it may trigger cramps, dizziness, fatigue, and severe complications such as Heatstroke and unconsciousness.

Doctors warn that dehydration can impair essential organs, including the kidneys and heart.

Early indicators include dry mouth, dark urine, muscle spasms, weakness, and light-headedness.

Experts stress that water intake alone may not suffice during extreme heat. ORS plays a critical role in restoring electrolytes and stabilising hydration levels.

As per World Health Organisation guidelines, a standard 20.5-gram ORS sachet contains sodium chloride, glucose, potassium chloride, and trisodium citrate.

Individuals must dissolve it in one litre of boiled and cooled water and consume it within 24 hours.

Authorities have advised citizens to avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, remain hydrated, and keep ORS accessible to prevent serious health complications.
