A distressing incident occurred at IIT-BHU where a female student was allegedly molested and stripped by motorcycle-borne men while walking with a male friend late at night. This incident led to hundreds of students at IIT-BHU staging a protest, demanding increased security measures and an entry ban on outsiders.
According to the victim’s complaint, she and her friend were near the Karman Baba temple when three men on a motorcycle forcibly separated her from her friend, took her to a corner, and gagged her. The perpetrators then stripped her, recorded a video, and took photos. They released her after 15 minutes but took her phone number.
An FIR has been registered against three unidentified individuals based on the victim’s complaint, and local police have initiated an investigation.
In response to the incident, the Congress expressed concern about the state of law and order in a prestigious institute like IIT-BHU. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra questioned the safety of BHU campuses and top institutions like IITs.
The secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) unit at BHU, Abhay Singh, and its members joined the protest, demanding the swift identification of the accused and strict legal action against them.
The IIT-BHU administration has taken steps to enhance security, announcing the closure of all barricades within the campus from 10 PM to 5 AM to create a safer environment for staff and students.
