Leh, 11 September 2023: The Ministry of Home Affairs had sanctioned two Border Battalions and two Women Battalions for the Border Districts of the erstwhile J&K State which also included the then Ladakh Division. 270 posts for the Border Battalion and 162 posts for the Women Battalion were earmarked for the two districts of Ladakh i.e., Kargil and Leh.
The posts were advertised in 2019 and physical tests/examinations of the candidates from Ladakh who had applied for these posts were held between 27.07.2021 to 03.08.2021.
However, the Police Headquarters J&K had canceled the earlier advertisement and re-advertised these posts wherein the candidates from Ladakh were excluded in the new advertisement, and recruitment was restricted to only the Domiciles of J&K.
Keeping the interest of the youth of Ladakh in mind, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor raised the issue with the Ministry of Home Affairs with the request to transfer the 432 posts meant for UT of Ladakh. The Ministry of Home Affairs vide letter dated 05-06-2023 decided that the posts meant for Ladakh shall be transferred by the UT of J&K to the UT of Ladakh. Subsequently, the Honorable Lieutenant Governor took up the matter with the Honorable Lieutenant Governor, UT of J&K vide D.O. No. LG-UTL/2023/168/247 dated 02-09-2023 with the request for early intervention in the matter.
As a result of due deliberations and follow-up, the Home Department, UT of J&K vide order No 443-Home of 2023 dated 11-09-2023 has transferred 270 posts of Border Battalions and 162 posts of Women Battalions which were earmarked for the districts of Ladakh i.e., Kargil and Leh today on 11 September 2023.
The recruitment process for filling these posts shall be resumed by the Administration of the UT of Ladakh very soon.
