Holi 2026: PM Modi, Macron Exchange Greetings In Hindi, French

In a notable gesture of cultural diplomacy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron exchanged festive greetings in Hindi and French on the occasion of Holi, reflecting the strengthening relationship between India and France.

The interaction took place on social media as Holi celebrations were observed across India on March 4.

President Macron initiated the exchange by posting a short message in Hindi on X that read, “Happy Holi, my friend!”

The greeting, shared early in the day, quickly gained traction online, receiving thousands of reactions and reposts. Many users highlighted Macron’s use of Hindi while addressing the Indian Prime Minister.

Responding to the greeting, Prime Minister Modi thanked the French President and conveyed his Holi wishes in French.

“Thank you very much, my friend! On the occasion of the sacred festival of Holi, I extend to you and to the people of France my sincere wishes for happiness and prosperity,” he posted.

The exchange in both languages drew widespread reactions on social media, with many users noting the symbolic use of Hindi and French by the two leaders. The interaction highlighted the mutual respect and personal rapport between them.

This is not the first time Macron has used Hindi in a message linked to India.

During his visit to India in February 2026, the French President had captioned a photograph with PM Modi using the phrase ‘Jai Ho’.

The Holi greetings also come weeks after Macron’s India visit, during which both countries announced the India-France Year of Innovation 2026.

The initiative focuses on strengthening cooperation in defence, artificial intelligence and cultural exchanges, while also encouraging stronger people-to-people connections.
