HM Shah attended the BJP’s state core committee meeting and held discussions with councillors who secured the party’s first-ever win in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
Senior leaders, including BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, former Union Minister V Muraleedharan, former state president K Surendran, and Shobha Surendran, participated in the deliberations.
The meeting focused on strategy, messaging, organisational consolidation, and ways to translate symbolic wins into broader political impact.
The visit follows the December local body elections, where the BJP fell short of HM Shah’s directive of securing a 25 per cent vote share statewide.
The breakthrough in the state capital, however, has been highlighted as a psychological boost and proof of growing urban appeal.
Party sources indicate that Shah emphasised a campaign centred around Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which the leadership believes can help convert visibility into seats rather than mere token gains.
HM Shah is using the engagement to take stock and guide a course correction for the Kerala unit.
Party leaders will discuss whether to prioritise headline-grabbing wins in key urban centres or focus on consolidating votes across the state.
The visit underscores the BJP’s determination to leverage its historic civic gain while confronting the challenges of limited presence in the 140-member Kerala Assembly.
The Thiruvananthapuram visit, coming at a politically sensitive moment, reflects the BJP’s strategy to strengthen its organisational base, refine campaign approaches, and build momentum ahead of future state-level elections.
It highlights the party’s intent to transform isolated victories into a sustained political presence in Kerala.
