Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Raigad Fort in Maharashtra on Saturday to honour the 345th death anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a revered figure in Indian history and pride.
As part of his two-day visit to Maharashtra, HM Shah will begin his Saturday itinerary by visiting the memorial of Jijamata, Shivaji Maharaj’s mother, in the Raigad district at around 10:30 am.
He will then proceed to Raigad Fort, the historic capital of the Maratha Empire, to participate in a series of commemorative events.
At the fort, Shah is scheduled to offer floral tributes at the samadhi (memorial) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, underscoring the enduring legacy of the Maratha warrior king.
The visit holds deep cultural and political importance in Maharashtra, especially given the timing amid growing tensions within the state’s ruling coalition.
Shah’s presence at Raigad reinforces the central government’s effort to align with Maharashtra’s historical and regional pride.
Later in the day, Shah will head to Sutarwadi for a lunch meeting at the residence of Sunil Tatkare, state president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Member of Parliament from Raigad.
Tatkare personally invited the Union Minister, and Shah’s acceptance has sparked political curiosity, particularly against the backdrop of ongoing tensions within the ruling Mahayuti alliance.
Shah’s visit comes at a sensitive moment for the Mahayuti alliance, which comprises the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction).
Internal rifts have intensified over the unresolved issue of guardian minister appointments in the Raigad and Nashik districts.
Earlier this year, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde objected to the appointment of Aditi Tatkare, Sunil Tatkare’s daughter, as Raigad’s guardian minister.
The objection prompted Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to put the appointments on hold, further escalating friction within the alliance.
CM Devendra Fadnavis received HM Shah in Pune on Friday evening when the Union Home Minister landed in the city.
Political observers are closely watching his engagements in the state for any signs of realignment or resolution within the ruling coalition.
