HM Amit Shah To Visit Belur Math; Durga Puja Pandals During Kolkata Trip

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Kolkata on Saturday night for a brief visit to West Bengal. On Sunday, he will visit Belur Math and several community Durga Puja pandals.

Shah will land at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport around 8.10 PM from Ahmedabad. He will then travel to the state government guest house in Alipore, South Kolkata. His schedule includes no official engagements on Saturday.

On Sunday, Shah will begin his visit at Belur Math in Howrah district. The institution serves as the international headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda.

Shah will arrive at 11.10 AM and stay until 11.50 AM. He will participate in the Durga Puja celebrations on the premises and is expected to interact with the monks.

The Home Minister will then visit two prominent community Durga Puja pandals in Howrah before returning to the guest house for lunch.

After lunch, he will visit three more pandals, one in South Kolkata and two in North Kolkata. Shah will leave for New Delhi at 3.05 PM, according to his schedule.

A West Bengal BJP leader said the visit would not include political or administrative engagements. The leader added that Shah was unlikely to deliver a political message during the festive period.

This year’s Durga Puja marks the first celebrations since the change of government in West Bengal. Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari inaugurated the festivities at Eden Gardens on Mahalaya earlier this month.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been expected to attend but could not make it.

Shah visited West Bengal during Durga Puja last year, when he attended the Santosh Mitra Square celebrations associated with BJP MLA Sajal Ghosh. He also inaugurated a pandal at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in Salt Lake.
