Union Home Minister Amit Shah to inaugurate 15 major projects in the national capital today to coincide with the launch of the Delhi government’s ‘Seva Pakhwada’.
The ceremony, held at Thyagraj Stadium, marks the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and signals a fortnight dedicated to public service.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta says her government is moving swiftly to transform the city into a ‘Viksit Delhi’ and prioritising sections of society historically overlooked.
She confirms that from September 17 to October 2, the administration will roll out 75 projects worth several crores to accelerate progress, improve public convenience and strengthen social welfare.
Among the initiatives unveiled is the Atal Drishti Girls’ Hostel near Timarpur, designed for visually impaired students pursuing higher education.
Built at a cost of ₹13.42 crore on a 3,703-square-metre plot, the three-storey facility can house 96 students. It aims to provide secure and self-reliant living conditions.
The Atal Asha Home in Narela, another flagship project, sets a national benchmark for the care of intellectually disabled individuals.
Constructed at a cost of ₹40.60 crore, the three-storey complex stands on a 12,500-square-metre plot. It will accommodate 220 residents and offer comprehensive support services.
Officials inaugurated the Savitribai Phule Senior Citizens’ Home in Paschim Vihar to provide a safe, dignified and comfortable environment for older residents.
The ₹10.64 crore facility has a capacity for 96 residents. It will offer medical care, nutritious meals, hygienic accommodation and opportunities for social and recreational engagement.
Chief Minister Gupta notes that naming the senior citizens’ home after Savitribai Phule is a tribute. She was India’s first woman teacher and a social reformer.
Savitribai Phule campaigned against child marriage and discrimination while promoting women’s education.
Through these projects, the Delhi government underscores its commitment to inclusive growth and citizen welfare.
The launch of ‘Seva Pakhwada’ on Prime Minister Modi’s birthday reflects a blend of governance, service and social responsibility. It is aimed at creating a more equitable capital.
