HM Amit Shah Congratulates Amul & IFFCO For Landmark Global Recognition

In a historic milestone for India’s cooperative movement, two of the nation’s premier cooperatives — Amul and Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) — have secured the top two positions globally among the world’s ten leading cooperatives.

The achievement highlights India’s growing leadership in the cooperative sector and its success in building inclusive and sustainable rural enterprises.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah extended his heartfelt congratulations to both organisations, describing their accomplishment as a proud moment for the nation.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Amit Shah said, “A proud moment for Bharat! Heartiest congratulations to @Amul_Coop and @IFFCO_PR for occupying the first two ranks among the top ten cooperatives in the world.

He further praised the millions of women associated with Amul and the farmers contributing to IFFCO’s growth, saying their dedication represents the spirit of India’s cooperative strength.

Shah added that this success reflects the boundless potential of cooperatives, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed into a global model of empowerment and self-reliance.

India’s Dairy Sector: A Model of Inclusive Growth

India’s dairy industry serves as the backbone of rural livelihoods, integrating farmer-led cooperatives with women’s participation and scientific management.

As the largest milk producer in the world, India continues to advance its dairy sector through innovation and inclusivity.

The government remains committed to strengthening this sector by providing subsidies, credit facilities, and research support in areas such as fodder development and animal health.

These measures ensure the sector’s long-term sustainability and enable India to meet both domestic and international demand.

The establishment of the National Co-operative Exports Limited (NCEL) in 2023 marked a significant step towards expanding India’s cooperative export potential.

Within a short period, NCEL achieved an export milestone of ₹5,403.01 crore, covering a wide range of agricultural and food commodities, including rice, sugar, baby food, processed food, spices, and tea.

NCEL has been promoted by five leading cooperatives — IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, Amul (GCMMF), and the National Co-operative Development Corporation (NCDC) — reflecting a unified approach to boosting India’s global agricultural trade through cooperative strength.

A Vision for Cooperative Prosperity

Amit Shah emphasised that the global recognition of Amul and IFFCO aligns with the PM Modi government’s vision of ‘Sahakar Se Samriddhi’ (Prosperity through Cooperation).

The achievement, however, symbolises India’s transformation into a self-reliant cooperative economy, driven by collective effort, women’s empowerment, and farmer participation.

As Amul and IFFCO set new global benchmarks, India’s cooperative model continues to stand as a beacon of inclusive growth, empowerment, and rural prosperity, strengthening the nation’s position on the world stage.
