Himachal Pradesh: Atal Tunnel Receives Fresh Snowfall

Fresh snowfall has lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh. Several areas received light rainfall as well.

The Atal Tunnel, also known as the Rohtang Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh, received fresh snowfall on Saturday.

Atal Tunnel is a highway tunnel constructed under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal range.

As per the Border Roads Organisation, it holds the distinction of being the longest single-tube highway tunnel situated above 10,000 feet.

It is located on the Leh-Manali Highway.

Meanwhile, in view of snowfall, the administration has closed Atal Tunnel for vehicular movement.

So far, there has been about four inches of fresh snowfall in Atal Tunnel.

In many areas of Lahaul and Spiti, there has been irregular snowfall since Friday night.

Meanwhile, the Himachal Pradesh Traffic, Tourist and Railways Police posted a traffic update for Lahaul and Spiti districts on Saturday.

Earlier on Friday, the IMD issued an orange alert for specific districts in Himachal Pradesh for rain and snowfall.

The alert was issued for the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and some parts of Lahaul-Spiti.

The alert cautioned about anticipated snowfall and rainfall for a three-day duration starting from 28 March.
