Case Filed Against Five, Including Former Bureaucrat, in Uttarakhand Gurdwara Killing

An incident of grave consequence has shaken the Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara community in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district. Baba Tarsem Singh, the dera kar seva chief of the revered Gurdwara, was tragically gunned down on the shrine’s premises by two assailants riding a motorcycle.

The perpetrators, identified as Sarabjit Singh from Tarn Taran, Punjab, and Amarjeet Singh from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, have been swiftly named in the FIR and charged under sections 302 (murder), 120b (criminal conspiracy), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. However, the shock extends beyond these assailants, as three others, including a retired IAS officer, have also been implicated in the FIR due to suspicions raised by the complainant.

Among those listed in the FIR is Harbans Singh Chugh, the head of the Nanakmatta Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, along with Baba Anup Singh and Pritam Singh Sandhu, the vice-president of a regional Sikh outfit. The circumstances surrounding their involvement remain under investigation.

The tragic incident unfolded when Baba Tarsem Singh was seated within the Gurdwara premises, only to be targeted by the assailants wielding a rifle. Despite immediate medical attention, Baba Tarsem Singh succumbed to his injuries while being transported to a nearby hospital in Khatima.

Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara, situated approximately 50 km from Rudrapur, holds profound significance in Sikh faith and culture. Its serene ambiance and spiritual sanctity draw devotees from far and wide, making the loss of Baba Tarsem Singh deeply felt within the community.

As authorities continue their investigation into this heinous crime, the Nanakmatta Sahib Gurdwara community mourns the untimely demise of their revered leader, Baba Tarsem Singh, whose legacy will forever be cherished.
