HD Revanna, a leader of the Janata Dal (Secular), addressed the media on Monday regarding the allegations of mass sexual harassment against his son, MP Prajwal Revanna. He expressed suspicions of a conspiracy and asserted his resilience in the face of adversity.
“I am aware of the ongoing conspiracy. I am not one to be intimidated and flee. The videos being circulated are from 4-5 years ago. The decision to expel Prajwal Revanna from the party is up to the party high command,” HD Revanna stated, as reported by ANI.
Prajwal Revanna, the incumbent MP from Hassan and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has been implicated in purported sex tapes. Thousands of pen drives containing videos allegedly depicting his sexual misconduct were distributed in Hassan, his Lok Sabha constituency.
The majority of these tapes are purportedly recorded by Prajwal himself, with some allegedly filmed in his residence and office. According to the Karnataka police, a pen drive seized in Hassan contained 2,976 videos, ranging from a few seconds to several minutes in duration.
In addition to the accusations of involvement in a sex scandal, Prajwal and his father, HD Revanna, are facing an FIR filed by their domestic worker, alleging repeated sexual harassment between 2019 and 2022. A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed by the Karnataka government to investigate the matter.
Prajwal Revanna has denied the authenticity of the videos and departed for Frankfurt on the same day the SIT was constituted.
HD Revanna commented on the Karnataka government’s investigation, stating, “It is their state government; they can conduct the investigation as they deem fit. Prajwal was already scheduled to travel abroad. He was unaware that an FIR would be filed against him,” ANI reported.
He further remarked, “During the past 40 years, under Congress rule, we have faced numerous investigations, including CoD or SIT. I have not discussed this matter with Deve Gowda. Any action will be taken in accordance with the law.”
Prajwal Revanna, a mechanical engineering graduate from Bangalore Institute of Technology, won the Lok Sabha seat from Hassan in the 2019 elections, maintaining the family’s stronghold on the constituency. He was appointed as the JD(S) state general secretary in November 2019.
