Haryana Election Results: BJP Surprises With Early Lead, Shifting Celebrations

Haryana’s election results revealed unexpected trends on Tuesday morning, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defying the “popular perception” of a Congress wave in the Jat-dominated state. The outcome led to a dramatic shift in celebrations at the party headquarters of both Congress and BJP within just a couple of hours of counting.

Initially, early results showed the Congress party leading, prompting jubilant celebrations at its Delhi headquarters, complete with firecrackers and sweets. However, as the counting progressed and the BJP began to pull ahead, the atmosphere at the Congress office quickly turned somber.

About an hour into the counting, the BJP surged ahead, invigorating its supporters and causing the celebrations to move from Congress headquarters to BJP’s offices. The BJP’s lead grew stronger with each round of counting, surpassing the halfway mark, a trend supported by official numbers from the Election Commission.

While Congress workers had started the day in high spirits, offering sweets to media personnel, their mood dampened as the BJP’s numbers climbed. Congress leaders, however, remain optimistic about a potential turnaround as more rounds of counting are still underway.

Top Congress figures, including former Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, expressed confidence that the party will ultimately secure a majority and form the next government. Kumari Shelja remarked that conclusions drawn too early may be hasty.

As of the latest updates, the BJP holds a decisive lead over Congress and appears on track to surpass the crucial threshold of 46 seats. If these trends continue, the BJP is poised for a hat-trick victory in Haryana, marking what could be its strongest performance in the state to date.
