Food Poisoning Incident in Bihar Affects Six, Including Five Children

Six individuals, including five children, fell ill due to food poisoning in Chaukhat village, Banka district, after returning home from a local fair. The incident report on Tuesday.

According to officials, the group returned from the Kendau fair and opted for a light dinner, having snacked during the event. However, around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, they began experiencing severe symptoms, including vomiting and diarrhea, prompting a rush to the referral hospital in Amarpur for treatment.

Rajesh Manjhi, the father of one of the victims, confirmed the timeline of events. The affected individuals include Laddu Kumar (12), Sapna Kumari (5), Gopal Kumar (12), Rabina Kumari (6), Gangiya Kumari (13), and Urmila Devi.

As their condition did not improve, doctors transferred them to Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur for more advanced care. Dr. Apurv Aman Singh, who treated them at the initial hospital, indicated that all the children displayed symptoms consistent with food poisoning.

“The children may have consumed stale food at the fair, leading to their illness. Despite receiving first aid, the severity of their symptoms necessitated their transfer to a higher-level facility,” Singh stated, noting that their condition was critical.

This incident adds to a troubling trend of food poisoning cases in Bihar. On September 28, 11 children fell ill after consuming contaminated food at an Anganwadi center in Mahuli village, Nawada district, during a midday meal of ‘khichri’ (a rice and lentil dish).

Additionally, on September 27, approximately 70 students at an engineering college in Bettiah, West Champaran, fell ill after a lizard was found in a meal served at their hostel.
