Gyan Bharatam App: PM Modi Invites People To Share Cultural Treasures

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged citizens to join the Gyan Bharatam App, a digital initiative that aims to document and preserve India’s vast manuscript heritage.

He highlighted the importance of collective participation in safeguarding the country’s rich cultural legacy.

Speaking during the 132nd episode of Mann Ki Baat, he emphasised that public involvement plays a crucial role in protecting and promoting India’s traditions.

He noted that such initiatives reflect the spirit of people-led efforts in preserving history.

The Ministry of Culture developed the app as part of the Gyan Bharatam Mission, which seeks to create a comprehensive digital map of manuscript collections across the country.

The platform enables individuals to share information about manuscripts and contribute directly to the preservation of historical records.

The Prime Minister pointed out that citizens have already shared thousands of manuscripts through the initiative.

He cited examples from Arunachal Pradesh, where people have contributed manuscripts in Tai script, and from Amritsar, where contributors have documented texts in Gurmukhi script linked to Sikh traditions and the Punjabi language.

He also highlighted institutional contributions, including palm-leaf manuscripts, copper plate inscriptions from Rajasthan, and valuable Tibetan manuscripts documented by monasteries in Ladakh.

These contributions, he said, showcase the diversity and depth of India’s cultural heritage.

Encouraging wider participation, he said the survey will continue until mid-June and urged citizens to share elements of their regional traditions.

He added that such collective efforts help preserve history, strengthen cultural awareness, and pass on India’s heritage to future generations.
