Gunfire At Ration Shop In Delhi Sparks Fear, Third Incident In 24 Hours

Gunfire at a ration shop in the Nangloi area of Delhi on Saturday morning, marking the third such incident in just 24 hours. Fortunately, there has been no report of injuries, but the shooting has heightened anxiety among local residents.

According to Subhash Bindal, General Secretary of the Market Association, two armed men on a motorcycle fired three to four rounds before fleeing the scene around 9 AM Along with the gunfire, they left behind a note that included a name and two photographs of young men.

Bindal emphasized that the attackers appeared more interested in instilling fear than causing physical harm. “A shopkeeper was nearby, and if they had intended to shoot him, they could have easily done so,” he stated. “Their goal seemed to be intimidation and making demands.”

While no specific demands were made during the incident, Bindal noted that similar occurrences often lead to extortion demand. The note left behind was described as containing names, which Bindal suggested could be false identities.

Another local shopkeeper expressed alarm over the growing trend of such incidents in Nangloi, stating, “The strategy is to intimidate one businessman, then another, ultimately leading to ransom demands.” He highlighted the fear this instills in the business community, which is vital to the city’s economy.

Locals alerted police after a witness reported the shooting. They recovered three shell casings and two live cartridges from the scene. A case registration has taken place, and an investigation is underway.

This incident follows two others in Delhi within the same day. The first occurred in Naraina Vihar, where gunmen targeted a luxury car showroom on Friday evening. The left a note in car showroom that read “Since 2020.”

The second incident involved a gunman who fired shots outside Hotel Impress in Mahipalpur, reportedly linked to previous extortion threats against the hotel owner. Police suspect that this shooting was part of an effort to exert control over the establishment, noting that the owner had been threatened previously in connection with a figure named Goldy Brar.

As authorities investigate these alarming incidents, concerns about safety and the implications for local businesses continue to grow.
