A grenade attack on a temple in Amritsar has left the local community shaken, although no injuries were reported.
The attack occurred late on Friday night in the Khandwala area of the city, with two bike-borne assailants throwing a grenade at the Thakur Dwara Mandir.
This incident marks the 12th such attack in Punjab in the last four months, raising concerns about security in the region.
According to CCTV footage, the assailants arrived on a motorcycle with a flag mounted on it.
After briefly scouting the area, one of the individuals hurled the grenade before both suspects fled the scene.
The explosion was powerful enough to damage the temple’s wall and nearby buildings, with broken windowpanes reported from adjacent structures.
However, the priest and his family, residing on the upper floor of the temple, escaped unharmed.
Police and Authorities Suspect External InfluenceLocal police officials have raised concerns about the involvement of Pakistan in inciting disturbances in Punjab, a state with a long border with Pakistan.
Amritsar Police Commissioner, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, remarked that the attack could be a deliberate attempt to create fear and unrest, especially during the Holi festivities.
Bhullar urged local youth to stay away from such criminal activities.
State Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal confirmed the attack but assured the public that the situation was under control.
He revealed that authorities have identified the two individuals involved in the attack and are working to apprehend them soon.
This grenade attack adds to a growing list of violent incidents in Punjab, including previous attacks on police establishments and RPG assaults in Mohali.
While the authorities have pledged to strengthen security measures, the recurring nature of such attacks has prompted widespread concern.
With tensions rising in the region, both local residents and political leaders are calling for a swift and decisive response to prevent further violence and ensure stability in Punjab.
