Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the “Grand Cross of the Order of Honour” award on Friday. This ranks as Greece’s second-highest civilian honor.
“In the person of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an honor is bestowed upon the friendly people of India,” reads the citation for the honor given to PM Modi.
The document continues, “On the occasion of this visit, the Greek State honors the Prime Minister of India, a statesman who has relentlessly promoted his nation’s global influence and who works methodically for India’s economic success and prosperity, enacting ambitious reforms. a statesman who has elevated climate change and environmental protection to the top of the priority list for international action.
“Eminent personalities who, due to their distinguished position, have contributed to raising the stature of Greece” are given the Grand Cross of the Order of Honour.
Greek citizens and the administration were hailed by PM Modi for demonstrating the “respect the people of Greece have towards India.”
“I am grateful that the Grand Cross of the Order of Honour has been bestowed upon me by President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the Greek government, and the Greek people. This demonstrates the respect Greeks have for India, he tweeted.
