Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, along with several organizations, condemned the recent drone attacks on civilians. Singh, who also handles the Home portfolio, called the use of drones to drop bombs on civilians and security forces terrorism. He promised decisive action against these attacks.
The attacks, which occurred in Imphal West and Imphal East districts on Sunday and Monday, killed two people, including a woman. They also injured 14 others, including women and police personnel. Singh said, “We denounce all forms of violence. The people of Manipur will unite against hate, division, and separatism.”
COCOMI labeled the drone attacks as war crimes. They accused Kuki militants of misusing ambulances to infiltrate Meitei villages. COCOMI reported that militants used an ambulance from Leimakhong to attack Koutruk village, killing a 31-year-old woman and injuring her daughter and nine village volunteers.
The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) denied that drones were used in the attacks. They said Kuki Village Volunteers shot down a drone targeting Kuki areas. KSO also questioned claims of Kuki militants receiving training in Myanmar.
The Manipur Home Department has formed a 5-member committee to investigate the drone use. Chaired by Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, the committee will address the recent violence.
Former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh criticized the central government for not speaking out. He raised concerns about national security due to the proximity of the attacks to important installations.
