Golden ‘Kalash’ Stolen During Puja At Red Fort; Delhi Businessman Laments Loss

A golden ‘kalash’ (urn) and other valuables worth around Rs 1.5 crore were stolen during the Jain religious event, Daslakshan Mahaparv, at the 15 August Park inside Delhi’s historic Red Fort.

The stolen kalash belonged to Delhi businessman Sudhir Kumar Jain, who had brought several precious items for the rituals.

According to CCTV footage, the suspect disguised himself as a Jain priest and walked away with a bag likely containing the valuables.

The theft occurred around 9:26 AM, while organisers were busy welcoming dignitaries, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who was on stage receiving blessings from Jain saints.

Golden Kalash and Other Valuable Items Stolen

The golden kalash contained approximately 760 grams of gold and nearly 150 grams of diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. Jain described the urn as an heirloom from his father’s time, estimated to be worth around Rs 1 crore today.

“This is from my father’s time. When people like this worship God, we take it out,” Jain told IANS. He also confirmed the timing of the incident and said all details are recorded in police records.

Delhi Police have identified the suspect and assured that they will make an arrest soon. The incident has raised concerns over security arrangements at high-profile religious gatherings within the Red Fort.

The theft occurred in broad daylight during a major religious ceremony, highlighting vulnerabilities in security even during events attended by top dignitaries.

Jain expressed hope of recovering the valuables soon, as assured by the Delhi Police.
