Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday leaves for Italy to attend the G7 meeting, marking his first international visit of the third term.
PM Modi, in the departure statement, said that he is glad that the first visit in the third consecutive is to Italy for G7.
Italy’s Prime Minister invited PM Modi to attend the G7 outreach summit. The summit is to take place in Borgo Egnazia resort of Apulia region between 13 to 15 June in Italy.
According to the information received from the official, Georgia Meloni, Italy’s PM, invited PM Modi to Italy. Modi is to attend the outreach summit on June 14 in Apulia. Leaders of the countries will hold a bilateral meeting.
The summit will be held at the Borgo Egnazia resort in the Apulia region between June 13-15. Leaders of seven member states will attend the summit. These states are the US, Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and France – as well as the European Union.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said, ‘This visit will provide an opportunity to Prime Minister Modi to discuss many important issues for India and the Global South with other world leaders present at the G7 summit.”
This will be the 11th time that India will participate in the G7 summit. This is Prime Minister Modi’s fifth consecutive participation in it.
Kwatra said, ‘India is constantly working to solve many global challenges including peace, security, development and environmental protection. India’s regular participation in the G7 summit is clearly the result of these efforts.’
In an official statement from the PMO before the departure, the PM said that he is glad to travel to Italy on the first foreign state visit.
