Union Minister Giriraj Singh has sparked controversy by comparing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Singh accused Banerjee of being intolerant of opposing views, much like Kim Jong-un.
On Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee addressed a public rally where she accused the BJP of inciting violence in West Bengal in connection with the recent Kolkata rape-murder case. She claimed that BJP leaders in Delhi were using their party to stir unrest in Bengal.
Mamata Banerjee issued strong warnings, stating, “If you set Bengal on fire, Assam, Northeast, Delhi, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha will also burn.” She further threatened, “Modi Babu, if Bengal burns, we will topple your government.”

In response, Giriraj Singh criticized Banerjee’s leadership and statements. He pointed out that leaders like Lalu Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, and Rahul Gandhi seemed indifferent to the violence against women in Bengal, choosing instead to support Banerjee. Singh accused them of aligning with rapists and claimed that Banerjee’s declining popularity had led her to make such inflammatory remarks.
Singh’s comments come amid widespread agitation over the rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata, which has particularly affected medical students across India. He further accused Mamata Banerjee of undermining the federal structure and supporting rapists. Singh questioned how Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Yadav could endorse such behavior, criticizing their support for Banerjee.
Additionally, Giriraj Singh addressed a notice from the Waqf Board to Govindpur village near Patna. The board has claimed ownership of the land and demanded that the predominantly Hindu residents vacate within 30 days. Singh denounced the Waqf Board’s authority, calling it unconstitutional and asserting that the board has no place in the Constitution.
