CMD and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express News Network, Upendrra Rai, suffered a personal loss as his elder brother, Rajesh Rai, passed away on Saturday, 25 October, at a private hospital in Delhi. He had been unwell for some time and succumbed to a heart attack.
On Monday, 27 October, his mortal remains were laid to rest at his ancestral village, Sherpur Kala, in Mohammadabad, Ghazipur.
CMD Upendrra Rai attended the funeral, bidding an emotional farewell to his beloved brother with tearful eyes.
The demise of Rajesh Rai has cast a shadow of grief over the family, media fraternity, and Ghazipur district.
Known for his humility, compassion, and social spirit, he was widely respected as a man devoted to public welfare and service.
His simplicity and kindness earned him love and admiration from everyone who knew him.
Residents of Sherpur Kala recalled how he continued to help others selflessly until his final days, living a life that inspired many through his quiet dedication and moral strength.
Rajesh Rai shared a long association with the Sahara India family, where he played an active role in several community development and social welfare initiatives.
During his tenure, he contributed to various rural upliftment programmes and earned deep respect for his integrity and commitment to service.
His guiding principle in life was ‘Seva hi Dharma hai’ (Service is the true religion).
He firmly believed that one’s true worth lies in one’s actions and dedication to the welfare of others — a philosophy that defined his life and endeared him to people across all walks of life.
Several eminent personalities expressed condolences at his passing, including Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, senior journalists, public representatives, and social workers.
They also described Rajesh Rai as a shining example of humanity and compassion, whose loss is an irreparable one for society and the media world alike.
Citizens of Ghazipur remember him as a man who demonstrated through his deeds that greatness often lies in simplicity.
Prominent attendees at the ceremony included Shri Nand Kishor Rai, Shri Awadh Kishor Rai, Shri Ashok Rai, Dr Niranjan Rai, Shri Rakesh Rai, Shri Narendra Rai (Nanhe), senior BJP leader Shri Vinod Rai, Shri Arvind Rai, MLA Dr Virendra Yadav, Shri Ajit Rai, Shri Vineet Rai, Shri Ram Bhawan Rai, Shri Pankaj Rai, and BJP leader and businessman Shri Santosh Rai.
Moreover, renowned industrialist Shri Akshay Anand, along with Bharat Express News Network’s Group Managing Editor Shri Radhey Shyam Rai, Shri Sanjay Snehi, Admin Head Shri Ashish Singh, Shri Sudesh Tiwari, and Uttar Pradesh Head Shri Pawan Singh Sengar, attended the ceremony.
Members of the Bharat Express News Network bureau from across the country were also in attendance.
Even in his final days, he remained active in community service, leaving behind a legacy of humility and dedication.
Though Rajesh Rai is no longer among us, his values, spirit of service, and compassion will continue to inspire generations to come.
