The Health Department has intensified surveillance in Gautam Buddha Nagar after nearly 120 swine flu cases emerged across the district.

Authorities have issued a public advisory and strengthened preparedness amid changing weather and rising viral infections.

Officials have placed hospitals and health centres on alert. They have arranged facilities for identifying, testing and treating suspected patients.

Health centres across the district have adequate supplies of essential medicines.

The department has prepared a 20-bed intensive care unit equipped with ventilators for critically ill patients.

Officials said they would provide immediate treatment to patients requiring critical care.

Authorities are monitoring medical facilities, medicines and other resources continuously.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Madan Mohan Mani Tripathi urged residents not to panic. He advised people with possible swine flu symptoms to seek medical guidance promptly.

Common symptoms include cough, sore throat, fever, body aches, weakness and breathing difficulties.

Officials have asked elderly people, young children and those with existing medical conditions to take extra precautions.

Residents should avoid crowded places and unnecessary outings, especially when experiencing viral symptoms.

The advisory recommends covering the mouth and nose with a handkerchief, tissue or elbow while coughing or sneezing.

People should wash their hands regularly with soap and water and avoid close contact with infected individuals.

Health officials have strongly discouraged self-medication.

Residents should not begin medicines bought from medical shops without consulting a qualified doctor. They should maintain clean surroundings and seek timely medical attention.

Officials said early detection and prompt treatment can reduce the risk of the infection becoming severe.
