Four Killed As Car Plunges Into River In Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi; Search For Missing Continues

Four people died after a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) plunged into a river near Gangnani Dharamkund in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Thursday morning.

Rescue teams are searching for three missing passengers, officials said.

The accident occurred on the Gangotri National Highway near Gangnani Dharamkund, towards Dabrani, early on Thursday.

According to preliminary information, seven people were travelling in the seven-seater vehicle when it lost control and fell into the river.

Officials said the vehicle plunged approximately 20 metres beyond Gangnani Dharamkund.

Rescue teams recovered four bodies from the riverbank following the accident. Authorities have initiated the identification process for the deceased.

The district administration immediately mobilised police personnel, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and emergency services after receiving information about the accident.

Under the directions of District Magistrate Prashant Arya, authorities launched relief and rescue operations at the accident site.

SDRF personnel and divers are conducting an extensive search for the missing passengers. However, the strong river current has significantly hampered rescue efforts.

Officials are searching potential locations along the river to locate the remaining occupants.

Meanwhile, rescue personnel, with assistance from Maneri police, are working to bring an injured person to the road for immediate medical treatment.

The district administration has placed the disaster management centre and medical teams on high alert.

District Magistrate Prashant Arya is closely monitoring the situation and has instructed officials to accelerate rescue operations and provide necessary assistance.

Authorities are also attempting to contact the victims’ families.

Meanwhile, officials have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Further details regarding the incident and the identities of the victims are awaited.
