Former RG Kar Principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh Faces Scrutiny Amid Multiple Investigations

Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, found himself at the center of multiple investigations on Wednesday, as he arrived at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office despite a summons from the Kolkata Police.

The Kolkata Police had issued a summons for Dr. Ghosh on Tuesday evening, requiring his presence at the police headquarters by noon.

The police want to question him about allegations that he disclosed the identity of the woman doctor tragically raped and murdered earlier this month, an action he reportedly committed multiple times during media interactions.

Despite the summons, Dr. Ghosh appeared at the CBI’s Salt Lake office at 9 AM, carrying several files.

This marks the sixth consecutive day of his questioning by the central agency, which has been grilling him for approximately 12 to 14 hours daily.

The timing of his appearance at the CBI office raises questions about whether he will be able to fulfill the Kolkata Police’s request.

The scrutiny surrounding Dr. Ghosh intensified earlier this week when the state government announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate allegations of financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital dating back to 2021, during Ghosh’s tenure as principal.

His resignation, following the tragic incident involving a junior doctor, has sparked further controversy.

Opposition Claims SIT Formation Linked To Ghosh Revelations

Opposition parties have suggested that the establishment of the SIT may be a response to revelations Dr. Ghosh might have made to the CBI.

His current leave status follows a Calcutta High Court directive barring him from holding any medical college leadership positions in the state until further notice.

The situation escalated when Dr. Ghosh, having resigned from RG Kar last Monday citing moral responsibility, was swiftly appointed as the principal of the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH).

This abrupt appointment triggered widespread protests from medical students and junior doctors at CNMCH.

As the investigations unfold, Dr. Ghosh remains a pivotal figure in the ongoing probes, with both the CBI and Kolkata Police delving into his actions and alleged misconduct.
